We are a team of zoologists and nature conservationists working to protect the endangered greater slow loris (Nycticebus coucang) and Sumatran slow loris (Nycticebus hilleri) - poisonous primates that fall victim to their cuteness. We have been running a non-profit organization on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia since 2014. Our main goal is the fight against the illegal trade in slow lorises and other wild animals. We are constantly developing the program mainly through cooperation with local communities conducted on several levels. At the “Kukang School”, we educate local children in which we develop a positive attitude to nature. We employ former poachers who are now our field assistants. We also turn local farmers into conservationists through the “Kukang Coffee” sustainable coffee farming project. In addition, we actively fight against wildlife traffickers.
Vision:
Reduction of the level of illegal trade (not only) in slow lorises and thus the protection of populations (not only) of these endangered animals in the wild from extinction by working with local communities, educating children, and fighting wildlife traffickers.

What are the consequences of the illegal trade in wild animals for animals and people, how do the black markets of animals work in Indonesia, what is it like to run a rescue centre for slow lorises and pangolins, or how running an English-environmental school and a coffee-growing project helps to protect nature in Sumatra? That and much more in the interview with the program director František Příbrský in the podcast below.
